I went to the grocery when I got home from work because my refrigerator is bare. I only had 40 dollars to spend, so I made sure to choose wisely. Nothing pre-packaged... I can't afford convenience. I bought a loaf of bread and some lunch meat to make sandwiches with this week. I'm always picky about my bread. I make sure to get the nicest loaf, and I keep it at the top of the pile in the cart. It was the last item to go onto the conveyor belt so that it would be the last thing to get bagged. I was feeling proud of my un-smashed bread. I put the grocery-conveyor-separator-bar down behind my weeks worth of food and moved up in the line. A minute or so later, I looked down at my bread to find that the guy behind me (you know the kind: he just couldn't wait to open that bottle of soda until after he payed for it) had placed his bottle of dishwasher detergent behind my bread... and it fell over the grocery-conveyor-separator-bar and
onto the bread. My loaf was
ruined. I didn't know what to say. Should I have moved the bottle myself? Asked him to move it? Requested a new loaf? I did none of the above. I waited until he saw it himself and moved it... I think he thought I didn't notice. But now I have a smashed loaf of bread in my kitchen, and I'm probably going to think about that guy every morning when I make my lunch.
The good news is I only spent 32 dollars.
